Recipient of His Grace

"The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen."
1 Timothy 1:15-17 (ESV)

The Bhuinhar reside in 96 districts of India and Bangladesh, the largest populations being in districts Ghazipur, Ballia, Azamgar - all in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Almost all speak Hindi, but six additional languages are spoken as well. They are almost entirely Hindu, in both India and Bangladesh.

Ministry Obstacles
The pantheistic worldview is not easy to overcome. Pray for a growing awareness of a personal God, one who knows each person and cares for each person.

Outreach Ideas

Evangelists and church planting teams are needed. Pray for workers.

Pray for the followers of Christ

There are some Christian believers among the Bhuinhar of India. Pray they will fellowship together, encouraging each other in the faith, bearing one another’s burdens, growing in love and knowledge.

Pray for the entire people group

Pray for the material well-being of the Bhuinwar, that they will be accepted by the castes and tribes around them, and be able to properly support their families.

Scripture Focus

"And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations." Mark 13:10

The Fulani people comprise the largest nomadic society in the world. The Fula Maasina are located predominantly in the Maasina region of Mali. The culture and lifestyle of the Fula Maasina who live there are virtually identical to those of the other Fulani peoples in West Africa. Houses belonging to the settled Fula Maasina are typically round with mud walls and thatched roofs. They are strongly Sunni Muslim.

Ministry Obstacles
The identity of the Fulani tribes has long been tied to Islam. To follow Jesus as a Fulani is to risk cutting oneself off from family and friends … serious losses indeed.

Outreach Ideas
Sustained and focused prayer is needed for the Fulani tribes, to prepare their hearts. Many Christian workers are needed for these large tribes. Pray for workers, for the harvest is ripening.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray the few Christian believers among the Maasina Fulani will be sent teachers and materials to help them grow in Christ. They need prayer support. Pray they will clearly understand the Gospel of grace, not mixing it with the religion of good works. Pray they will see the need to be obedient to Christ out of gratitude.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray the large Fulani tribes of West Africa will be able to care adequately for their families, that they will have sufficient rain for their livestock and crops. Pray they will make schooling a priority for their children. Pray for the widow and orphan, that they be cared for by the community.

Scripture Focus
"All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats." Matthew 25:32

The term Rawat signifies a prince; it is a title borne by the relatives of a king. Traditionally, the Rawat are a landowning community engaged in cultivation. Their attitude towards education, medical and family welfare programs is favorable. Their family deity is Ashapridebi. Village level and regional level deities are Bherujee and Matajee.

Ministry Obstacles
The Hindu Rawat have little concept of a personal, creator God who loves them personally.

Outreach Ideas
Stories from Scripture, combined with Gospel films and recordings, can be used effectively.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the followers of Christ that will someday emerge from the Rawat community, that the Lord will provide qualified pastors and teachers for them, and that they will be well established in the faith.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the Rawat community to increasingly be aware of their need for forgiveness of sin, and that the creator God loves them.

Scripture Focus
"And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations." Mark 13:10

"The Bhuiya, a Scheduled Caste, are mainly landless, but a few possess cultivable land. They depend mostly on daily-wage labor, rickshaw-pulling, brick-laying, etc. Their pantheon includes a large number of deities, such as Dihwal, Gorraiyya and Bir Bhairon. Their literacy rate is 4.3%, 1981 census.

Ministry Obstacles
The Bhuiya community speaks well over 30 languages. Evangelistic and church planting outreaches need to accommodate the linguistic subdivisions within the community.

Outreach Ideas
A very low literacy rate requires taking the Gospel of Christ to these people primarily in oral form, using stories from Scripture, as well as Gospel recordings and films, and other visual/oral means.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the handful of Christians among the Bhuiya community, that they will desire to grow in Christ, to become disciples, not merely Christians in name only. Pray they will put on the full armor of God, including the shield of faith.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the Bhuiya community to be able to care for their families, and for schools to be available to their children. Pray they will make schooling a high priority.

Scripture Focus
'All nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord, they will bring glory to your name.' Psalm 86:9”

"The Bedouin typically follow a hierarchy of loyalties based on closeness of kinship that runs from the nuclear family through the lineage, the tribe, and even to an entire ethnic or linguistic group. Disputes are settled, interests are pursued, and justice and order are maintained by means of this organizational framework. The individual family unit typically consists of three or four adults (a married couple plus siblings or parents) and any number of children, and is semi-nomadic pastoral.

Ministry Obstacles
Saudi Arabia is very hostile to any kind of Christian witness.

Outreach Ideas
Sustained, focused prayer is first priority. Christian television and radio and evangelistic websites are very helpful. Muslim women need to hear how much Jesus values women.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the handful of followers of Jesus among the Bedouin, that the Lord will protect their faith and nurture it. Pray they will find each other and fellowship together. Pray for their encouragement.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Bedouin will increasingly be drawn to the man Isa (Jesus) as they read the Koran. Pray the Lord’s Spirit will open their eyes to see that Jesus is more than a prophet.

Scripture Focus
'Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name.' 1 Chronicles 16:28-29”

"The Tuareg are descended from Berbers in the region that is now Libya, and also from ancient Saharan peoples. Following the independence of African countries in the 1960s, Tuareg territory was artificially divided into modern nations: Niger,Mali, Algeria, Libya, and Burkina Faso. The Tuareg adopted camel nomadism, along with its distinctive form of social organization, from camel-herding Arabs about two thousand years ago.

Ministry Obstacles
Algeria does not provide a welcome to Christian workers, as such. Innovative ideas for access are needed.

Outreach Ideas
Pray for the few existing believers to become mature in the faith, and be given a heart to share the Gospel message with their friends.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the few Christian believers among the Tuareg, that they will live exemplary lives and reveal the Lord’s character through His Spirit.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray for improved living conditions for the Tuareg, and for good schools for their children so they can be well prepared to live in the 21st century.

Scripture Focus
"Having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people." Revelation 14:6"

One of the dominant communities of Gujarat, the Lohana migrated from Lohargaadh (now in Pakistan) a few centuries ago. They are Hindu and worship gods like Shankar and Srinath in addition to their family and clan deities. They engage Brahman priests to conduct their ritual and religious functions. The community council looks after their welfare; it provides financial assistance to the poor and to deserving students for promoting education.

Ministry Obstacles
The Lohana community has had almost no opportunity to hear of Jesus. There is much that must be communicated to them.

Outreach Ideas
Indian Christians can overcome caste boundaries and carry the good news of Jesus to the Lohana community. Pray the Lord will give this vision and opportunity to several workers.

Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be no followers of Jesus among the Lohana today, but pray for those that will soon come forth. Pray they will be sent teachers to help them, as well as resources such as Gospel films and recordings. Pray they will be zealous to follow Christ.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the Lohana community to continue to make education a priority for their youth. Pray the entire community may maintain an adequate standard of living, and that the widow and orphan may be cared for.

Scripture Focus
"Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest?’ Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest." John 4:35”

Poland was once home to the largest Jewish population in Europe and served as the center for Jewish culture, ranging from a long period of religious tolerance and prosperity among the country’s Jewish population, to its nearly complete genocidal destruction by Nazi Germany. About three million Polish Jews were killed during the Holocaust. Most of the remaining Jews left Poland in the late 1960s, and many found their way to Israel.

Ministry Obstacles
For a Jew to follow Jesus is to invite ridicule from the Jewish community.

Outreach Ideas
The Gospel of Christ is available to the Polish Jews of Israel. But they need the desire to receive it. Pray for that desire to emerge.

Pray for the followers of Christ
There are few if any followers of the Messiah Jesus among the Polish Jews of Israel, but pray for the Jews who will soon come to Christ from this people group. Pray they will quickly become firmly established in the faith, not doubting or wavering.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the Polish Jews to increasingly have the veil removed from their eyes - the veil mentioned by the apostle Paul, which prevents the Jews from perceiving their Messiah.

Scripture Focus
"And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." Genesis 12:3"

Sorry, I didn’t get to post this yesterday! :(

"The Qashqai are a tribal confederation of clans in Iran. The Qashqai were originally nomadic pastoralists but most are now settled, or partially settled. Historically, the Qashqai are believed to have come from Central Asia, and may have been among the Turkic groups that arrived in Iran in the 11th or 12th centuries. They are renowned for their magnificent pile carpets and other woven wool products.

Ministry Obstacles
Iran is not hospitable to Christian workers; access is limited.

Outreach Ideas
Gospel radio and television, evangelistic websites, Gospel recordings and literature can all be useful.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the followers of Jesus among the Quashqai to grow in their love for Christ and for each other. Pray their faith will be nourished by the Spirit of Christ.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the good news about Jesus to reach the ears of the Qashqai community in an understandable way, in their mother tongue.

Scripture Focus
"Through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations." Romans 1:5"

The Tanti people are found across the northeastern portion of India. They are said to have originated as weavers, providers of cloth, back in history as far as ancient Bengal. Not too long ago, virtually every home would have had a loom and cloth present. Today, much of their trade has been taken over by factory production and imported goods. They are considered among the lower castes of India.

Ministry Obstacles
The Tanti community speaks over 15 languages, residing in 30 states of India. Reaching them with the Gospel of Christ will require a multi-pronged approach.

Outreach Ideas
Several church planting projects will likely be needed to communicate with this widely dispersed community.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the few followers of Jesus among the Tanti people, that they will live a life worthy of the calling they have received, being patient, bearing with one another in love.

Pray for the entire people group
The Tanti community has a great need for clean water to help with sanitation issues. Since so much of this group is found in rural India, they do not have ready access either to sanitation or medical facilities.

Scripture Focus
"I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples." Psalm 108:3

I’m adding a new tag to my blog.

"Prayer for a People"

Last week, I was chatting with one of my kuyas in the youth about my recent realizations and how I wanted get be more involved in missions. He shared with me a link to a website with information on several ethnic people groups that haven’t heard of or have only heard very little of the Gospel (a.k.a. “unreached people group”).

On the website, they have what they call “Unreached People of the Day”, wherein they share about the background and needs (both physical and spiritual) of a certain unreached people group.

I, sadly, have a hard time remembering to pray for unreached people groups, so I thought it would be a good reminder for me to post them on my blog. I’ll be posting a new group to pray for that week every Sunday. Hope this helps me!

Let us all remember to keep these people in our prayers. The power of prayer is not to be underestimated.
